Hi. I am new here, diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma at end of March in my local hospital and confirmed as metastatic at the Royal Free more recently. It has been a bumpy journey of having to nag, follow up appointments, leave messages, etc but got there and had my first immunotherapy session a week ago. I am so grateful to get it and feared that they would not treat me as I am in my 70s. I am otherwise fit and never had any symptoms apart from a lump in my side. So far, only mild tiredness but the long list of side effects is very scary especially as I live alone with my little dog. How have other people coped with side effects and living alone with this? I have to say my three children are very supportive but live at a distance.
Hi Olddoggielover
As far as I can tell, if you have been in good health they wil try to extend your good health. How to do that without live in support I guess will depend on the strength of your mind and willpower.
Our consultant person was direct and brutal when telling us all the side effects. You won't get them all. Take the advice of the nurses. They are awesome.
Hey there,
I'm a 39 yo male whose just had his left kidney removed after confirmation of RCC and a 7cm tumour. I’m also about to be starting immunotherapy and have all the same worries you do - so you’re not alone!
I wish I had more to offer as far as reassurances go - but if it makes you feel better at all, you’re not alone and your worries are all totally valid and normal! I’m terrified about the side effects but resolute that this is the best course of action.
I wish you all the best, and hopefully someone with much more experience with this will chime in to offer more positivity!
Evening,
A few of us are going through immunotherapy at the moment.
I'm having my second dose next Monday.
Have a look at the thread "Immunotherapy 1st one"
Best of luck!
