Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone has had really bad flank pain after having a nephrectomy.

My husband had his operation may2023 and is al ways exhausted and has bad flank pain. He has only half of his left kidney remaining.

He was always doing something before his operation but now he is just so tired and always has aches and pains.  Its just so frustrating for him so just wondering if anyone has had similar issues.

Cheers jaxx

  • I didn't, only for the first few weeks, but it went away. I had this before my diagnosis, though but didn't know it was cancer. I just thought it was the way I was sitting.. I am always tired though..

  • Hi Paul

Thank you for your reply the flank pain maybe due to a back problem he has aswell but yeah just like yourself he's always exhausted.  I don't know if he has a bit anemia and hasn't had blood's done for a while  but trying to get anything done at our doctors is just a waste of time .

    Cheers jaxx

  • Funny enough Jaxx my doctor(GP) has been useless. 20 years ago she would have called me at least once to see how I am doing. Not once in over a year has she asked me about my treatment..

My oncologist told me to use the Beatson Cancer hotline we have up here in Glasgow. They have been fantastic. You might have a similar place where you stay pal

  • Hi Paul

Thanks I will look into that . Yeah he has to rely on seeing.g his surgeon every 6 months just seems like everything is going down hill these days just no aftercare.  I must admit his surgeon has been really good we are down here in geordieland newcadtle and attends the freeman who sre amazing its just the GPS are the problem.

    Cheers Paul

  • Hi Lydia

Yeah my hubby has been to GP and all his follow ups . He only has half a kidney and was anemic for quite a while after the operation. He had an MRI scan which showed bridging in his spine which means small particles keeps breaking off so the pain is excruciating when it happens. He can do something for instance mowing a small lawn and he's exhausted.

.Fortunately all his scans are cancer free and his kidney count is the best it's been so don't really know whsts going on and his bloods are nor to bad .

It is a stressful time as you will know yourself. I always get that dreaded feeling when his scan is due just in case it's back again. I know I shouldn't think like that but I can't help it. I'm just grateful he's still here just wish he could get pain free with the back problem .

Thank you so much for your reply and wish you and your family all the best for the future.
