Hi I had a radical Nephrectomy 9 months ago, however my left side and abdomen is still very swollen and feels heavy and uncomfortable it gets worse at night. Also the area is still completely numb. I still have Cancer in my Para Aortic Lymph Node. Any helpful advice would be great as I am a bit worried and in a lot of discomfort. Thank you

  • Hello! What did you do?

  • Hi

there is not a lot I can do, as it may be permanent, I have been referred to Bristol for more surgery to remove the lymph node, as it’s a bit tricky they said it couldn’t be done in my local hospital.

  • Hi still going thank you, can’t believe it’s been a year since I was diagnosed. Just CT scans and monitoring iam supposed to be going to Bristol for further surgery to remove the remaining Cancer, but also been told it will come back. Not sure what to do now.

  • Sorry to hear this. Try and stay strong. Easier said than done I know.

  • I will be 17 weeks post op on Friday full nephrectomy. My abdomen is still swollen, I can't press it as it feels very tender.  I returned to work  8 weeks ago. I am careful what I do. I'm a medical secretary so nothing too stressful/strenuous. I've gained weight yet I'm eating the same as I did before my op, weight gain is around abdominal area/hips/face. My face always looks puffy and swollen as do my legs/ankles. All symptoms I never had before. I've also developed pins and needles again not something I had before and only started recently around 5 weeks ago!! Silly things like this are getting me down, as my mind wonders and I think there must be something going on  inside or my poor solitary kidney can't cope hence why I'm so swollen!!!  Who knows...  awaiting CT results x
