My husband had his first immunotherapy treatment 11 days ago, side effects started 4 days after treatment, aches and leg pains started and no appetite, then started to be snappy and delirious when sleeping, I rang the Oncology alert phone number and was told he had to go to our local A and E department, he has been admitted and now has an infection and low sodium, he feels very unwell, anyone been through this
Hello Ann M
I'm sorry to read your husband has become so unwell after his first treatment.
You did the right thing in phoning the cancer treatment helpline, and getting him into hospital. A similar thing did happen to me, but after 4 sessions of treatment, not the first one. Unfortunately, immunotherapy drugs can cause side effects, but they can be treated. There are some other people using this forum who have also experienced similar problems, and they may reply to you too.
If you click on my username, it will take you to my profile, where you can read more about my experience with immunotherapy.
I hope your husband is recovering well and receiving treatment.
Best wishes
Candysmum
Hello Candysmum My husband is still in hospital and still being treated for an infection with antibiotics, his sodium level is still very low the treatment is restricting and measuring his fluid intake, so not to flush the sodium out of his urine, he has kidney cancer (tumour) so not ideal, his doctors have withdrawn all his prescribed medication to get to the bottom of it so his blood pressure is up and down, also they are in consultation with his Oncology team at a different hospital, he has been told he is very unlucky to have side effects like that on his first immunotherapy treatment, he has no appetite, leading up to his diagnosis he was quite fit and healthy so it's so sad to see him like this, thankyou so much for getting back to me I am very grateful to you.
