Testicular pain post surgery

I had my surgery around 3 weeks ago now and once I woke up post surgery in the ward I was told that as my surgery had been keyhole they had inflated my abdomen up with gas to give themselves more room to work, within the next day I realised that this had also swollen up my left testicle as well. I informed the nurses fairly quickly about this (well you would, wouldn't you!) and I was told that this was normal and that it would go down as the gas was "passed" naturally over the coming days. This did indeed happen however I have been left with low level pain...up until yesterday when it suddenly started to hurt quite a lot more, it's not severe (more akin to the dull ache one gets a while after a good kick in the privates). I had also complained about trouble urinating and as such had put a urine sample in to be tested, before I could get the test results back I had an appointment with my Dr who has put me on anti biotics, he has however said that if it carries on after I finish the course I should speak to the hospital that performed my kidney op.

Has anyone experienced anything similar and if so what was the cause? More than a tad worried in case it has managed to get itself twisted and requires yet more surgery.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read about the problems you're having at the moment and it's natural to be worried.

I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where hopefully one of the group members with the right experience will see it and pop in.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hello, although my anatomy is different to yours Blush I thought I would say Hi and see how you are feeling now. I didn’t have the discomfort you have described but did occasionally have problems going to the loo. I felt as though as needed to go urgently but it didn’t come. This did however clear up quickly.

This whole experience, diagnosis and treatment tends to come out of the blue and does take some getting your head around. So do remember to cut yourself some slack.

    Big hugs Jules x

    1. Hi Jules, I’m doing better now thanks. After talking to my Gp he’s put me on anti biotics and the pain had subsided over the last few days. Peeing is still difficult but getting better by the day, My side is still extremely sore after surgery and I still have to watch what I do.
  • Hi Tomcat,

Sorry to hear you have had problems but, so glad your GP is on to it with antibiotics you most of caught some kind of infection so the antibiotics should help with that, I don’t think you should beat yourself up about this as it was only a few weeks ago that you had your op and everyone does recover In their own time, your body will let you know when you are ready to go, start off with light exercise and build it up as time goes on, I hope you start to feel better and can control your pain give it time and you will start to feel better in yourself, sending hugs and best wishes to you Sandy xx
