Any advices following partial nephrectomy

Hi all, I was hoping to get some advice please? I had a partial nephrectomy in early May this year, followed 2 weeks later by emergency surgery for internal bleeding. All was sorted and my team at the UHNM in Staffordshire were great.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been experiencing considerable back and side pain where I’m guessing my kidney is, to the point I now can’t sleep, and both to lie down or to sit is really painful.

am I crazy to think it’s just the weather going so cold, or maybe I’ve pulled something or could this need a medical check. Don’t want to trouble anyone unnecessarily but would appreciate hearing of any similar experiences? Thanks Helen aged 55

  • Hi Helen D,

Try to stop worrying and get an appointment with your gp, speak to one of your team or Macmillan’s on-line or by phone, I am sorry I cannot help you with your little problem, but there might be someone else who has experienced this and will be able to help, I am sure we all worry when we have aches and pains our minds works overtime, take care and let us know how you get on. sending you hugs and best wishes Sandy xx

  • Hi Helen

just seen this post I had my left kidney removed and I agree with the pain and uncomfortableness over a week since it is still tender I sleep with a pillow on my left hand side next to my arm just  so it takes the weight of my side , I place my left arm on it and it gives a little more elevation so the covers are not directly on my staples ! I feel it you try it it may help you sleep Sleeping

hope you feel better and able to get some sleep xxx Milli1964
