Hi I was diagnosed with 2.6cm tumour in my right kidney 2021 December and I had partial nephrectomy  robotic surgery 2nd of February 2022. Fortunately I was diagnosed when I went for a ultrasound scan for several episodes of urine infections. The cause of infection was due to menopause instead the tumour was picked at very early stage. I don't have any underlying illnesses or under any medications. Aways healthy and active person. Since December I'm off work and trying to get back to my normal life.

At present since the surgery I'm experiencing back pain on my right side and in the middle of the spine ,sometimes under the rib cage. Most of the time my head spines when I lie down and get up from the bed. Also I could hear my heart beat through my right ear like thumping or fanning.

Is this normal or I have to seek help. All I was told the recovery period is 2 to 3 weeks but I'm nearly completing 6 weeks. Its worrying me.

Anyone experienced similar post op side effects? Or comment about it please.

Thank you

  • Hi Chan, l am sorry to hear your worries. I can't make any comment re your operation but l can comment on the thumping in the ear. I've had that sensation for years both sides despite good BP.

Having said that; following operations one always feels anxiety about every unusual sensation. I am sure you're fine but do speak to you Cancer Nurse Specialist for some advice and reassurance Above all, as everyone says, keep strong. My rrgards Adrian

  • Thank you for the kind reply Adrian.  Yes i did send a message to cancer nurse. Hopefully will be hearing from them soon.

  • Well done Chan. A very positive move. And chase them up to get a reply if necessary. My regards Adrian
