Hello all, I had a left kidney partial nephrectomy on may 14th 2021 it all went well I stayed in hospital overnight but now it's coming up to the 6 month mark where I have my appointment at the hospital on the 11th October,  well 3 weeks ago my partner treated me to my favourite salted peanuts which I have not had a bag for over a year I think the last time I had a bag was Christmas 2019 well anyway I had about 4 handfuls at dinner time as a snack to see me through till tea time, well tea time came and I sat down to pasta bake with cheese ( yummy) well not long after finishing tea I sat down to watch a bit of TV and I got an enormous pain right below my ribs now at the time I didn't know if it was to do with the operation or way too much salt intake, the pain brought tears to my eyes it was that bad, so I decided to go lay down hoping that the pain would go away but it never so I took 2 paracetamol and an hour later the pain had gone but it was still painful to even touch so the next day I went to see my doctor about it he sent me straight up the hospital to be checked, but due to COVID restrictions I was sent to a ward to be seen on there, I had blood tests, COVID swabs, anyway sitting in the ward corridor for 7 hours I had no drink which I didn't want to leave incase they called me in to see the doctor etc the painful area was gradually going away by 7pm so after waiting I decided to quickly dash and get a couple of fruit juices as by then my mouth was very dry, when I got back to the ward they called me in and out of the blue they told me to pick a bed I thought for a check over but the nurse said I was staying in as the doctor was worried about me as the partial nephrectomy the doctor who performed the operation told me they removed the lesion which was the lowest form of cancer and that it had not spread , well anyway I refused to stay in hospital that night as I was not prepared for it because my doctor said it would be a check up and go home etc, now all they wanted me to stay in overnight for was so I could have a full CT scan.i went home that night as I had to sign a discharge form and had something to eat and a drink before resting then I went to bed, the hospital phoned me the next day saying I have to have my full CT scan that day at 2 in the afternoon and then go back to the ward done that and the nurse said go home as they will ring with my results in 2 hours so that would of been 4 to 5 pm but they rang at 8pm to say they had a look and there was no blockages which made my mind settle but she did say I need to attend my hospital appointment with the consultant as she thinks something is wrong with  my lymph nodes as I drink plenty of water each day but some reason I still have a dry throat and mouth and I sweat a lot even when it's cold.

What do they mean by lymph nodes is something wrong, would it be the cancer had gone to them?  Sometimes my chest feel funny when I breathe and if I lay on my right side in bed my breathing sppeds up but laying on the left side where I had my operation it goes back to normal, could it mean my right kidney had the same problem? It just makes me wonder as I'm a 50 year old man who has 3 grandkids and always active but get breathless chasing the grandkids, I have so much going through my mind as I'm a ex smoker and could it all be something to do with the quitting and my body is slowly healing or could it be the lymph nodes? I'm hoping the hospital consultant can tell me more when I go to see him on 11th October 2021

    Hello buttercup

    • Had my hospital appointment yesterday and the doctor said all has healed well and  my full CT scan showed no more lesions growing any where, he said he is happy that my body can now recover from theoperation and to keep attending my 6 monthly CT scans just to keep an eye on things inside, my smile lit up the room when he said that, my partner is happy too but told me I have to still not do any heavy lifting and to rest when I'm tired,Slight smile
  • Glad your appt went well yesterday
