Cancer spread

Hi Gilly73uk,

Welcome to the kidney cancer community, I cannot say as I have never asked about spreading, I always was in the understanding that it had to go into your bloodstream to spread someone else might be able to tell you, I know that in my case they were worried about it getting near my main blood system, I have had my left kidney taken out I also had to have my spleen removed as it was attached to the kidney, I know my case is different from yourself it might be a good idea to contact one of the Macmillem nurses if no body else can help, I would just like to welcome you to the group take care and I hope your scan results come back fine try not to worry until you know your results, I will say having kidney cancer can be very scary and you will have anxiety waiting for your scans and than results 

Hi Gilly  Norfolkflyer here. 75 yrs old with kidney cancer which has progressed. I wish l was at your time and place. You're in good hands. I think l might push for further scans to re-assure yourself. Worrying about scan results is pretty scary and only information will help. I know l've been there. You just want them to crack on. It's urgent for you and for us all. I'm on chemo and luckily no side effects . I know you will worry,we all do and have. I'm just a fellow member for about 4 weeks. I wish you well.

Hi Norfolkflyer,  sorry to hear yours has progressed..

My tumour 6 months ago was only 2.5 cm and they treatment was to do nothing just monitor me every 6 months,.. the treatment eventually for me is just the removal of the complete kidney but I also have advanced diabetes with stage 3 Chronic kidney disease (CDK) which has left my kidneys functioning at 50%. So when they remove my kidney I will need dialysis  so they try to leave it as long as possible..  im just worried about it spreading..

Thank you Gilly73uk, I hope someone will be able to answer your questions, I am waiting for my three monthly scan results, I was supposed to have them last Thursday but when my oncologist phoned me said he did not have them back yet, I will have to wait until next Tuesday to found out results so I am up and down worrying we are all in the same position take care I am sending you air hugs  so sorry to hear that you will have to go on dialysis I have type to diabetes type 2 and only half my right kidney working, they did tell me I would be able to manage with a quarter kidney if you want to see anyone’s story just go to the mug icon and go on profile Sandy

Do your results still go to a MDT team or straight to your consultant? X

No they go to my oncologist as I have been taken off the MDT team as there was nothing else they could do for me I am on chemo at the moment so fingers crossed

welcome to the group.

I've just had my right kidney removed back in july which was a tumour around the whole kidney, now recovering very well and just had CT scan last week to see if my left kidney shadow as grown, it was at 1.4mm back in May so hopefuly when I get my results it hasn't grown (cross fingers) also I've a small dark shadow on the bottom of my right lung. I too am worried to what the scans might say but it's a waiting game. good luck Gilly73uk
