Hi guys x Everyone's different and will recover in their own time I know Blush I read the info sheets given to me before I had my nephrectomy op...it said recovery time 6 to 8 weeks. For some maybe, for me...nope. I'm currently week 13 (New Year's Day). The scar area is still sore, some of it still numb but felt I was doing fine and ,with caution, getting on with usual household jobs, I caulked a gap along the bottom of the skirting in the kitchen which Id been meaning to do for ages..doing the washing, hanging the washing out, sweeping the path, decorating the xmas tree, up the ladder putting the xmas lights up in the window etc etc.Was going to paint the kitchen wall. One night, in bed, a few days before Xmas, I decided to get up and open the bedroom window cos the room felt stuffy. All our casement windows are a bit high up for me so I have to stand on tiptoes to reach the opener handle thingy. I managed to lift the handle up then went, with gusto, to push it open. Usually that would send the window swinging out but this time it didnt move. Thought no more about it and went to bef. Next morning let the doggie out, bent down to tidy up after him and suddenly felt like Id been cut in half! I got a burning/stinging pain which shot straight down my stomach like a whip, down the side of my scar. It felt like I had felt when Id only just had the op, only this time it was without anaesthetic or painkillers. Ouch..truly ouch!!. Anyroad, I took it easy and put up with it for a couple of days but after my other half said he was becoming worried, I knew it was best to seek advice. Xmas eve morning I phoned the docs and I got an appointment that eve. Youve probably guessed by now, Id overdone things by far and torn some muscle tissue.I was told to take things easy...a lesson well and truly learnt cos now way am I going through that again I can tell you! Christmas dinner ended up as turkey butties lol but all fine in the end.I only heard recently that after the op, you shouldnt lift anything heavier than a cup of tea?? Oh boy...Ive deff overdone things with that one, my kettle is heavy, pans on the cooker are heavy...guys take note..those are a no-no!  So guys...please...dont rush stuff...take it slow and gentle Pray

Oh wow Ethelmay!!  Just reading the list of what you’d done made me tired!!

For what it’s worth I ended up slipping a disc in my lower back 7 months after my op. You literally have no core strength. I’d had it previously so I’d basically put the pressure on my back to compensate. Id been really aware it was likely to happen and had asked if we got any physio or anything after the op but obviously we don’t.  Once you’re properly healed I’d really recommend gentle core strengthening exercises, or Pilates or yoga.

Rest up and feel better soon

Aw Jo, so sorry to hear about your slipped disc, you do have my sympathies because I know what its like xx I had been wondering about physio or help/info about some sort of excercise. My strength has gone, and Ive always been a physical person.I have some strength but nowhere near what I had before, and after what happened at Xmas I'm too scared to use it. I lost so much weight last year that my muscles seem to have disappeared. Thanks so much for your advice Jo..yoga seems a gentle way to start xx

swimming is also great if you enjoy it? Really helps the core, with no pressure on it while exercising.
