Hi I am planning to go abroad to Spain but my consultant has told me I will have to stop my TKI tablet medication for kidney cancer whilst I am away. He’s happy for me to go if my scan and bloods are all ok and can have my immunotherapy before. Is this the norm. I am worried about stopping the tablets for a week my consultant did not explain if it would affect the progress of my treatment. I had partial response on my first scan and stable on my second with necrosis on the primary tumour on my right kidney. TIA
Hi
Small interruptions in TKI & immunotherapy don't affect long term outcomes. I've had breaks in mine, read the strategy in white papers, and my onco advised "it doesn't make a difference". However, I know how difficult it can be to believe it, when you are in the moment.
Make sure you can get travel insurance before you book anything. There's a travel insurance group on here if you're not aware. Insurance companies have a varied risk approach to cancer patients but people here can advise those that have been good for them.
