Recurrence after three months post nephrectomy?

Hi all,

my hubby was diagnosed with a 9.5cm tumour on his left kidney in July this year and had a radical nephrectomy in August during which they ruptured the tumour - we were told it was dealt with and cleaned.

His pathology showed it as T3a N0 M0 predominately grade 2 cells, focal grade 3 (can anyone please explain what the focal bit means?).

He suffered a wound infection about three weeks after the op which was treated with antibiotics.

In the last two weeks he has become really bloated with gas and you can see his tummy is bloated. He was admitted to A&E this Tuesday and given a CT scan.

He has been told there is a small mass where the kidney was removed which could be a recurrence or something to do with the op - would a recurrence show so soon?

Also where his laproscopic wound is they said there is some internal blood an necrosis.  He now has to wait in hospital until Monday (it's now thusday) for their MDT meeting to discuss and he hasn't been given any further info such as what would be the options if it was recurrence etc.

Back to being so worried and waiting :(

Thanks for taking the time to read

Reading the latest CT report it looks like he’s got multiple lesions in his abdomen and two large masses, this is just in threes months post op, also he has ascites which I’ve read is end stage.

    Im starting to lose hope.

  • Oh

Has anybody discussed the CT report with u?

Ask to see the cancer support nurse if the oncologist isn't available.

Where did u read about ascites? Hopefully on this site or the Cancer Research UK, or Kidney Cancer UK , ie a reputable site. There's much out there on the net which is out of date &/ or inaccurate.Tha'ts why I suggested u talk it over with a medic.

You can also ring the helpline to talk to someone there on 0808 808 0000, 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.

Big hugs, thinking of u xx

    Hi

Please don’t give up hope. Its’s not much, but I just read this https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4429040/. Sutinib is actually one of the older treatments now. I hope it helps give you a little light xx

Thanks Jo. I wish they would drain it as he’s so uncomfortable and why we went to A&E originally.

  • Hi ,

Sunitinib is the forerunner of Pazopanib which many of us are now on

Do read the paper, it's really interesting, especially re ascites
