Hi guys, could anyone recommend a comfy cushion to sit on? Even though I do move around a lot,  because Ive lost  weight (and finding I'm sitting more now than Ive ever done) Im starting to get really uncomfy sitting on my now skinny bum. Confused Thanks guys x

  • Hi ,

This is not a problem that I personally have encountered, and at about 25 stones it could be while before I do, but was curious as to what was out there so had a bit of a look.  I looked at mobility aid and eating disorder websites and found lots of discussions but no advice. After a bit of searching I googled one of the terms I had come across "ischial tuberosity cushion" and found that you can buy them via amazon with cut outs to take the pressure off the bones.  However, the cheapest ones were about £30 and the most expensive were over £100!

It would probably be worth your while asking at your hospital if they have anything to assist or, if you have, one asking your Macmillan nurse if they know where you can get one.  I don't know if you have one or not but you have to apply to be allocated a Macmillan nurse.  I've put the link to the page explaining this here.  If you click on the coloured text it will take you to the page.

Again I am not aware of your financial situation but Macmillan can assist with the additional costs of cancer via grants.  If you click here it gives you the eligibility details (although I understand that these are flexible) and how to apply.

I hope that this is useful.

    All the best,

    Gragon xx

  • Hi Ethelmay, your local National Childbirth Trust may b able to advise too. I had a cushion with a cut out bit at the back on loan from them  after having son 24 years ago but doubt things have changed much since then lol.

Do you have a local hospice service you can ask? My area has community nurse specialists.

As Gragon says , there'll b a whole range of prices online  n  whole range of mobility websites too. These are probably a better bet than Amazon as they're more specialist? If you've cancer, u don't need to pay VAT on such products, which brings the price down quite a lot.

I need a cushion for my back when I go to the theatre or cinema. Some charity shops sell them and I was able to try them out before finding the perfect one. Not very expensive either.

  • Sorry, just realsed u said cushion for your back, not your bum!

I think she meant to sit on but the beauty of charity/junk shops is that you can sit on them first. Try doing that in John Lewis.

Had a visit from two really lovely District Nurses today. They explained that because I am mobile, Im not really eligible for a pressure cushion from them. I totally understand that so no probs. TheBlushdid, however, give me a fact sheet...very informative...about foods to help put weight back on BlushBlush

  • I dont know if you have a Macmillan team but I have been given aids to make my life easier from the Macmillan Occupational Therapist. I was given a high chair to make it easier to rise from and a raised toilet seat with a few other things too. I'm sure they would be able to get you a cushion xx
