Hiyah guys, Im new to the group and was most kindly greeted by Bodach and shown where to post. I have a large cyst on my left kidney which has meant Im due to have both it and the kidney removed together with the spleen. Im fortunate that at the moment nothing has spread elsewhere. Ive been referred from my local hospital to another one and Im waiting for an appointment. To say my anxiety is through the roof is an understatement. Im so relieved to have found this group because now I dont feel so alone. Love to you all x

  • U certainly aren't alone Ethelmay.

Welcome to the group, tho it's a dubious honour isn't it?

We all know what waiting for appointments feels like and -even more  -  waiting for results. Let us know how u get on at your appointment x

  • Hi Ethelmay,

I'm pleased to meet you although I would prefer it to be elsewhere.  and the other community champions are really good at helping people on the site.

It is perfectly natural to be anxious and if you need to, don't forget you can go and see your GP and they can look at this with you and see if you need any assistance either through talking or some short term medication.

In general anxiety is not helped by the unknown so don't hesitate to chase up your appointment at the hospital where you are due to have surgery.  The administration in the NHS is notoriously clunky and this can be even worse when they are trying to communicate between two hospitals.  Your appointment can take some time and a telephone call can sometimes improve this.  If they send an appointment they have to have time to write the letter and for it to be delivered, and still give you sufficient notice that you can ensure you can get to the appointment.  If you can talk to them directly you can agree any appointments there and then.  The difficult part can be finding out who to talk to but your GP should have a copy of the referral letter and would be able to advise you who you need to contact.

I hope that you get your appointment soon and as has already ben said please keep us updated and don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have or come back for a chat.

    love and hugs,

    Gragon xx

  • Hi Ethelmay, my husband also had 2 cysts on his kidney, together they measured 30cm, they were cancerous but came out with clear margins. His is Papillary RCC. I may be able to help a bit with the cysts questions. Good luck x

    Hi Ethelmay

Im so sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. I honestly can tell you I totally understand the anxiety you are feeling at the moment whilst you’re waiting for your appointments. It is horrific, each hour feels like a day, each day a week. I know I felt like I was just drifting through each day and going through the motions, I actually felt totally unplugged from normal/real life. I was very tearful and found concentration on anything almost impossible. I’ve recently just had my whole kidney and 13cm RCC removed 6 weeks ago and I can tell you that physically I’ve healed very well, but I’ve also just reached out to the group as I’m struggling with mental health side of things, all of which I’m told is totally normal. I was in hospital for a week and they provided me with incredible care, I was totally blown away! If there’s anything I can do or help with please let me know x x x

Thankyou for all your advice Gragon, its very much appreciated I can tell you. Its a relief to find people I can talk to, gps are so hard to get hold of, not like in the old days. I hadnt spoken to mine in the last 30 years and over that time my gps had come and gone and practices have merged so much that you get totally in a muddle

Hiyah Floral woman and Beenie 1984 and everyone. Im getting on ok...day by day. I was referred from my local hosp to another one more equipped, so I understand. My appt is for 2nd Sept to see the consultant there. I must say though that this 'time off'  has given my nerves a chance to settle and have found that most days I can now actually cook a meal as well as eat it. Not my usual appetite but a darn sight better than Ive been since this all started at xmas and my weight plummeted. Ive found Strawberry Complan has helped boost things too. For now Im just waiting ,though I have rung the hospital a couple of times to see if there've been any cancellations. None as yet. Now that the anxiety has subsided I feel more like my old self, more in control for the moment so I can cope better. My sense of humour has come back too. Keeping busy is the main thing at the mo though Im not up to looking after my garden which is a shame cos Ive never seen it look so untidy. Never mind, one thing at a time, bit by bit .Love to you all xxx
