Hello all, Im new here and looking for any experiences of recovery after robotic partial nephrectomy?

I have a bosniak 3 cyst that is 2.5ish cm, I'm otherwise a young and healthy mum. Just trying to get an idea of how quickly I can get back to every day activity (caring for baby, taking bigger kid to and from school etc) as my husband needs to tee up time from work.

Hi. I had keyhole in May to remove two tumours 4cm and 2cm from my right kidney. I am 52 slim and fit. The day before the operation i walked 4km in under 50 minutes. I was in hospital 4 days and up, barely, walking after 3 days. It takes two weeks really to get walking again. You’re not going to have much energy for the first two to three weeks, but everyone is different. You need to take your time and not rush recovery. I was back to my normal self after about eight weeks and did a 11km hike up a mountain 3km of which were 1:10 twelve weeks after the operation.

    Hope that helps.

Better advice will be along shortly but keep in touch here.

had a double partial nephrectomy 3 days before Christmas.  One kidney but 2 bits cut off it. I did have a laparoscopical procedure but recovery took a while. Stairs were a major problem as my right side and top of thigh were numb for a while. I set up camp on the sofa wth pillows and painkillers. Drinking was hard as there were long stretches in a day with noone else here to get water for me. I got used to getting a visitor to fill my bottle when they were here. Not being able to walk the dog, clean bathrooms and hoover was a problem as family thought I would manage that. Reality was that I couldn't even walk across the lounge for about 3 weeks. I stopped feeling guilty after a bit. I managed to lift more than a cup of tea at the 3 week point. Sleep whenever you need it, have some good books ready and knitting etc!

Don't do anything until you are ready and don't return to work or do too much too early.

Where will you have your surgery?

Hi Andy. Thanks for asking. I'm doing great. It has now been over 4 years and I'm still all clear of cancer and I've had no issues with the surgery.  Hope everything is well with you.
