Hi Everyone,
My mum has had pain in her abdomen for several months, anyways she thought she had a UTI so did a urine test. Came back with too much protein in urine. Did another one same thing. GP referred for a kidney scan which we did Tuesday. Yesterday we got the results and she has a mass on her left kidney. GP suspects renal carcinoma and she's been placed on the NHS Cancer Fastrack. We are just waiting on a call from the hospital. I guess I'm posting on here as me and my mum are like best friends we see eachother everyday. We both don't have partners and rely on eachother. It's all come as so much as a shock, she's in work today and I'm just sitting here crying and so upset as it's all a bit overwhelming. But I know I have to be strong for her so I also feel selfish and guilty for being so upset as it's not me going through it. Anyways not sure why I posted but just feel life life and gone crazy in 24 hours and it's a bit daunting.
Hi Joew
Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.
I am Steve one of our community champions and my experience of cancer is via my wife who has Leiomyosarcoma. People will more often find me through our Carers only forum or Family and friends forum which you might like to look at an perhaps join.
Something I find quite helpful is looking at your feelings when someone has cancer as I find being able to recognize these emotions and accept them as valid can help make them a bit less overwhelming.
You might find some of the information in our kidney cancer pages quite helpful, especially the section on how the doctors will get to a diagnosis.
<<hugs>>
Steve
Good morning.
Its hard right now of course, but just wait a wee while until all the results from medical clinicians have been assessed and presented. Some Kidney issues can be at the lower, more manageable, scale. Mine read T4 RCC -very nasty- clear cell 12 years ago -- and Im still around. Still certifiably stupid but still around.Twelve years seems a lot less.
Worry breeds worry, so try to build some safe space that you both can inhabit and concentrate fully on those things you love: its a wall youll be putting up. This really works. Proven. Discovered medical problems are just a tiny part of you both.
God bless, and remember your safe space to be.
