Had left kidney removed on the 6th of May. The good news is that the bladder, lymph nodules and other small organs look clean. The bad news is that the cancer broke through the kidney casing. I thought it was going to be removal or chemo - not both. Now I have an appt with a general Cancer doctor to see if I need chemo. That is on June 2nd. Don't want chemo but if I do need it what is it like?
Hi Pupsgalore and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
I had chemotherapy when treated for breast cancer and I must admit that it was no where near as bad as I thought it might be. Of course it's impossible to say in advance how you might be affected but I found it perfectly doable. I wasn't sick or tired, although I did lose my hair, but I was able to continue my 'normal' life pretty well.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Welcome pupsgalore..sorry I have just got back from my hols and catching up with messages.
Welcome to our group. They are a friendly bunch and will hopefully ease ur concerns over chemo.
I haven't had chemo so I can't help in this matter. However, things have come such a long way with treatments, even chemo.
Is chemo the only option discussed with you? There is also immunotherapy and targeted therapy, radiotherapy etc. I am not a medical person therefore I suggest u do a tiny bit of research, not Google lol..look at good British resources ie macmillan, cancer uk..then when ur appointment comes around u could ask if there is a different treatment possible
Sorry I can't be of help with the chemo question, but there will be some on here who maybe able to help.
Hugest hugs
