Hi there

I’m currently going through tests, about a month ago I went into my local urgent care centre with really bad pain in my lower back on the left and blood in my wee. They said it was suspected kidney stones but couldn’t test my urine properly because I was on my period. I was put on antibiotics and referred for an ultrasound. I had this ultrasound on Thursday last week (23rd nov) the drs called me Monday (27th) and told me they found a mass on my left kidney. I was referred for a ct scan and had that on Tuesday and then they called me again today and said I have to have a ct scan on my chest. I’m not sure why, I did ask but I can’t remember what they said.
I have the nhs app and was looking at my notes because I was telling my sister in law about the full blood test I had and they came back as normal. I then saw my ct results and said probably RCC and the mass is around 6/7cm.
I’m panicking and worrying, I’m a mum to 3 children. I’m nearly 33 and have a 12 year old, 9 year old and nearly 3 year old. I don’t want to leave them

  • Your very welcome, we're all on this journey togther in one form or another at different stages of treatment. Happy to help and support others.

  • Try not to worry - you’ve had very timely treatment so far. I had a huge cyst on my kidney which turned out to be cancer but it and my kidney were removed and, six months on, I’m feeling more or less back to normal. You’ve got youth on your side so hopefully your recovery time will be quicker than mine. Good luck - I hope that things go well for you.

  • I’m glad to hear you’re feeling back to normal Blush

  • I had my bladder scan that was clear and my chest ct was clear, the hospital did say they found a 2mm non significant thing on my chest but weren’t worried.
I’ve been referred for them to have an urgent meeting to decide if they want to do a biopsy, take the mass out or take the whole kidney out and then told me it would be around a month until I hear

  • Hi Tryingtohope - what happened next? I hope you have some clearer answers now?

  • I have an appointment with the specialist on 12th January and the mass is 8cm

  • Are you going to have the kidney removed? I had my right kidney removed 3 weeks ago and I'm feeling 75% myself now.I 'm a lot older than you - 59 - so if you need the op, I'm sure you will recover quite quickly. The first week after is the hardest but it soon passes. My tumour was about 6cm but I just got told this week that it was grade 3 - an aggressive type, so have to have immunotherapy. That was a bit of a blow but seeing info on here and peoples' experiences helps. I hope you have some good support from friends and family x

  • I have no idea as of yet, I think that’s what my appointment on the 12th is for them to tell me what they’ve decided. They told me the mass is 8cm but haven’t told me if it’s cancerous or benign.
I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better! I had a c section 3 years ago so I’m going to assume I’ll feel similar to that for a little while. My friends and family that know have been amazing, I’m still working as a childminder and my best friend comes over most days to keep me company and help me out because I’m not sleeping well and she just helps keep me sane really x

  • Ah, it's great that you have those people around you. I find it does help me a bit knowing I'm not the only person going through all the uncertainty all this stuff brings. I hope you manage to have a good rest and lovely time with your family over Christmas - though your children must keep you pretty busy! They are lovely ages but I do remember what hard work it is! Mine are grown up. Take care x

  • I find it helps too, thank you I’m finishing work today until January. My eldest 2 children are with their dad on Christmas Day but come back Boxing Day. I’ll have my 3 year old and my boyfriend (his dad) on Christmas though. He’s been amazing as well

    have a lovely Christmas x
