How long before my husband can return to work after procedure if everything goes well. Manual worker. Thank you.
Hi Toy and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I can't help with your question of how soon your husband can go back to work, but I noticed that you haven't had any replies yet. I've searched the group looking for other people which mention this procedure and found that simo.nb has posted about it recently. I've 'tagged' them into my reply to you and hope that they'll pop on to share their experience with you.

Hi,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, happy to pass on my experience.
I'm also a manual worker and was told by the hospital team it would take 4 weeks to recover, but it's taken a little longer with me.
I found I was ok to drive and lift light things after two weeks, but it's been 6 weeks now since my op and I'm only now starting work and easing my way back into lifting heavier things. It is still a little sore around the incision points and a bit swollen but nothing too bad . I spoke to the support team yesterday and they said this is normal but not to over do things and let your body dictate what feels ok.
Hope this is some help and happy to discuss anything further.
Best of luck with the op
Hi Toy, had my partial nephrectomy 24th Feb at Southmead hospital Bristol. Please be assured he will be ok. Im walking around, feel ok in myself. Bit sore were the surgury is but all ok. There is no lifting for 6 weeks and I would say 8 weeks before you heal fully inside. I was told there is a high level of hernia if you lift anything heavier than a kettle...take care. Lxx
Thanks for getting back to me. My husbands op was to be 2nd March but now 23rd. He worries that he will never get back to work. Doesn't seem to be worried about op apart from having a urine bag! How long were you in hospital for? And maybe tell me what he can expect the day after it if you don't mind telling me.
Thank you for replying. I seem to be more worried than he is but that's usual for us. What was day of op like and following day? I just would like to know what I can expect to see when they let me in to see him. I won't let him lift anything. Glad you are recovering well.
Thank you for your help as I have no idea of how this works. But have had two replies which were helpful so thank you
I was only in for one night, and had to pee 3 times before I could go home.
Walking was slow but they encourage you to move around, within limitations, to get things moving.
For the first couple of weeks I slept propped up, I bought a wedge pillow from Amazon.
Great purchase, I still use it .
Just take everything easy for the first week, lots of rest, a bit of walking each day and then gradually increase everything and within 4 weeks, he should be 80 to 90 % back to normal, then a further two weeks or so to be fully recovered.
And drink plenty of water.
