Hi everyone I am having a radical Nephrectomy on 17th July, robot assisted. I have a 6.4 cm tumour on my right kidney which was found purely by chance 6 weeks ago, I was hoping to have a partial nephrectomy but after the MDT meeting because of the size and location of the tumour it has to be a radical, it has been graded as a T3a. I am not so worried about the surgery (as I will be asleep) but more about when I wake up as I know I will have a catheter and possibly a drain. I am having my pre op tests today.
Good morning……I had a radical nephrectomy 8 weeks ago. The diagnosis was a shock….which it is to all of us on here. I had a good experience after the surgery as it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I was a bit worried about the catheter too but it was fine and stopped me having to get up to the loo.
I wish you all the very best and please keep us posted as to how you are doing…..any worries or concerns then just post them and get some support from our group.
Sending you a gi hug x Jules
Hi Emma
I had a radical neohrectomy three years ago, just before COVID. I recovered really quickly and the surgery wasn’t too bad. I think I was so glad to get it over with. Everyone has their individual fears and i can see the catheter is bothering you. I must have had one but don’t really remember so I can only say that it mustn’t have been too much of an issue. Lol.
I am sure you will surprise yourself when it turns out to be not as bad as you think. The anxiety in the run up can be a lot though so be really kind to yourself and keep occupied so that you aren’t thinking too much! I got my hair done, went shopping for new pyjamas and went out as much as possible. Anything to keep occupied. I looked fab jn hospital. Lol.
wishing you all the best ,
Liz
I had one of those six weeks ago and really there wasn't anything to it. Three days in hospital then home. Felt very sore due to the gas but no problems at all really. The catheter was taken out on the first day. I did wince but really its fine. I do keep saying though my surgeon is absolutely fantastic with a CV as long as yr arm.
