Hi my name is John I was diagnosed yesterday with kidney cancer and have to have the whole right kidney removed - it looks as though it hasn’t spread which is a good sign.
Hi John that is good news that it looks at though your cancer hasn't spread.
I had my left kidney removed several weeks ago due to a cancerous tumour and like you I'm lucky that it hasn't spread anywhere else.
It's still a big shock to know that you have cancer and have to have surgery to remove the tumor. I presume like mine it will be done by key hole surgery.
Apart from having to go every 6 months for CT scans and checks with my surgeon I don't have to have any more treatment.
Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your surgery as the sooner it's done the sooner you can get on with your life. It will take a couple of weeks after the operation to feel that you want to do much as you will be quite sore and not wanting to move much but the time passes quite quickly.
Hope that everything goes well with you and take care.
Betty
Hi Betty thanks for all that news that I would have to have CT every 6 months or so but when I think about it it makes sense
i have also recently diagnosed with Crohn’s so not in a good place really.
I am glad you are ok
Thanks for replying it does help to talk to people who have gone through the same.
Sorry that you also have just been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. You must have just been processing that fact when you now have something else to think about. Life is quite hard at times.
Just know you aren't alone.
Take care
Betty
Hi John, My name is Chris and i'm new to this site. I too was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer and i've been told that I will need the whole right kidney taken out by a robot. I was diagnosed after a routine ultrasound scan and just feel completely overwhelmed by it all. I'ts wonderful news for you that it hasn't spread.
I truly hope that everything goes well with you take care of yourself.
Chris....
Hi Chris thanks for the Email - I have today got my pre op next Friday 10th - you take care as well
Hi Lizzie07 Sorry you have been diagnosed with kidney cancer. As you say it is a terrible shock when you get the news and hard to take in.
I had my left kidney removed in August and it took quite a while before I wanted to tell anybody apart from my husband and family about my diagnosis but once I was able to tell my friends I had a lot of support.
Hopefully like me your cancer wont have spread and in a few months you will be able to get on with life. As I'm sure at the moment you feel your life is a bit on hold waiting for the operation.
My operation wasn't by a robot but was keyhole and luckily we don't know anything about it until we wake up a few hour later.
Take care and hopefully you wont have to wait long.
Betty
I hope everything goes well for you on Friday at your pre op and that you soon have your operation.
Take care
Betty
Hi John, I truly hope all went well with your pre op on Friday. I had to see the kidney specialist on thursday 9th, it wasn't great news. Instead of the keyhole surgery i thought i would be having I'm having major surgery as the tumour is larger than they thought and it may be pressing on my bowel and liver. So I'm being taken into hospital for my operation on the 22nd of December. To say I'm scared is an understatement.
Please take care of yourself
Chris
Hi Betty, Thank you for your supportive message. May I ask you how long it was until you felt able to get on with things at home. I saw the kidney specialist on Thursday 9th of December and the news wasn't good. I'm no longer having keyhole surgery as the tumour is bigger than they thought so I'm having major surgery. They think the tumour is pressing on my bowel or liver. I'm actually going into hospital on the 22nd of December for my operation and I must say I'm pretty scared.
Take care of yourself, Best wishes
Chris
