Hi,
My dad was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer.
grade 4 pt3a pnx leibovich score 7 clear cell carcinoma of the kidney.
He has had his kidney removed alone with an extremely large tumour (12 inches)
Hes doing well, but doesn't ask questions because of pride. And because of covid I haven't been able to attend appointment with him. Because of this we are very clueless with his diagnosis other than what his letters says.
Does anyone know what - grade 4 pt3a pnx leibovich score 7 clear cell carcinoma of the kidney means in none medical term. Iv tried to use the macmillan pack he received to understand but most are asking for n1 or n0 and M and stages. None of which have been told. He doesn't have a nurse and because of other urgent health problems he's been pushed through the hospital for another critical operation but not for cancer (or not to our knowledge)
If anyone can clear anything it would be very much appreciated.
Thankyou
A worried daughter.
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
Having had a different type of cancer I'm afraid I can't interpret your dad's diagnosis but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Replying to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the list where someone who has the experience you need may see it and be able to respond.
Even if your dad hasn't been assigned a CNS (cancer nurse specialist) he should still have a point of contact within his cancer team to help with questions, etc. If he gives his permission to them to speak to you, you could give them a call and they should be able to explain what the diagnosis means.
I have also found this information for you on staging and grading of kidney cancer which you might find helpful in understanding your dad's diagnosis.
It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi. I had two tumours removed a few years ago. I'll try and explain. Clear cell carcinoma is a type of kidney cancer. Leibovich is a scoring system devised by a surgeon called Leibovich. The system separates patients into three risk groups. The higher the number the higher the risk. Grade 4 indicate how quickly or slowly a cancer is likely to grow and spread. 1 being least likely. pt3a pnx. t3a describes how a tumour has grown or spread. Basically, these numbers and letters are a method for doctors to describe what they are dealing with. Now I'm not an expert. Nevertheless, he has had a large tumour removed along with his kidney. That's the best option. If all is good and he's not to receive any more treatment then that is good too. If so he will be checked every 6 months or a year for 5 years. I hope that helps
