Toothpaste for sore mouth/Mucositis?

Help! I need to find toothpaste that doesn't make me cry! Just started 2nd line drugs. Everolimus and Lenvatinib. I had mucositis with Axitinib before and its going to be a side effect of these too. My dentist prescribed a high fluoride toothpaste but that stings & I tried Zendium but that stings too. There are lots for sensitive teeth but I haven't found anything for a sore mouth. Does anyone have any solution?

Best wishes to you all! x

Hi , I use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth ,like you , couldn’t find anything else, when on treatment. The hospital give me corsodyl on prescription, which I dilute with water.

They can also give you a sachet of gelcare, you dilute with water and use as a mouth wash. It always helps to keep on top of my sore mouth.

  • Hi Deblorraine

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear you are a fellow sufferer!

I do have Gelclair & I use Caphosol as a mouthwash. Corsodyl is fierce! It's the toothpaste I just can't find.

Take care and thanks again x

  • Hi, not sure if this is the correct advice but I found children’s toothpaste (4 year or 7 year) isn’t as painful to use but still does the job!

    Hope this helps??

  • Hi, my husband uses a baking soda toothpaste

  • Hi Davethedog

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis and I hope you have a good quality of life. I will try the children's toothpaste and thanks for the tip. Wishing you  the best we can all hope for x

  • Hi Vulpes. I shall give it a go. Thanks for the advice. Best wishes x

  • The brand is Red Seal, but as we are in NZ I’m not sure if you can get that specific one in Uk. I know there is an arm and hammer one that you can get in the uk.

  • Hi Vulpes. I found Red Seal on Amazon but it's pricey - I'll see how desperate I get. Thank you for all your help & best wishes to you both x

  • I've had 3 rounds of EC and my mouth felt like it was burned, taste changed too - at one time all I could taste was pickled herring (which I love but not 24/7!). I use Biotene or Wisdom toothpaste for dry mouth plus their mouth gel and mouthwash - it has really helped! I have gel by my bed and use it if I wake up because of my dry sore mouth. There are other brands as well. I also suck on a mixture of mints or take an icelolly/ice-cream when needed.

  • I used the BioXtra Dry Mouth mouth wash but I didn't feel it relieved the dry mouth.  They also do Mild Toothpaste for dry mouth sufferers, £3.79 for 50ml.  Not tried it personally.

Have you searched the Head and Neck cancer group - I see they discuss this as they suffer big time with sore mouth.  Ora nurse is suggested.   Here's the link to the group:  https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/head-neck-cancer-forum  put "toothpaste" into the searchbar.
