Hi, I was diagnosed with kidney cancer beginning of July and was told they would remove the kidney. One ct scan and two mris later and I am told that I have lesions on two vertebrae and also in my liver. Now I have been told that the kidney will not be taken out and the ‘medication route’ will be taken.
I had a biopsy ten days ago and was told that it would tell the oncologist what type of cancer it is and will then guide him to the correct medication.
I hear people say that kidney cancer is a slow grower but back at beginning of July it was seven centimetres and now it is ten centimetres.
even though I understand that I have this cancer it also difficult to accept as generally I feel well. Being put on medication which will give me nasty side effects seems doesn’t fill me with glee.
Hi Nellie , sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's awful when you hear that they're not removing your kidney . It seems like all the info you read and all the literature they give you at the hospital is geared towards people that have had a nephrectomy, so it can feel really isolating.
Not all the treatments have horrible side effects and everyone deals with them differently so fingers crossed you'll cope well . My husband's tumour was very quick growing and he had 18 months on immunotherapy but has now changed to sutent and is getting used to that . Good luck
