In a nutshell it's a mess. No regular rhythm or routine and regular "gut ache" which feels like a really tight stomach. Have been taking Laxido but doesn't seem to cut it.  Been talking 1-2 sachets per day, should I up the dose?  Thanks.

  • Hi Chris  sorry to hear this….. gut problems unfortunately go hand in hand with Lymphoma treatment.

Are you constipated?…… if so this will be the steroids.

I used Laxido…… the usual dose for constipation is one sachet taken one to three times daily. But I was told if I was told if so was constipated to use eight sachets daily. All eight sachets must be taken within a six hour period.….. if things did not clear I had to call the chemo hot line.

Are you on any Proton Pump Inhibitors like Lansoprazole?…… chemo strips the stomach lining so it needs help so PPIs help this but a lot of people don’t take them correctly.

PPIs need to be taken 2 hrs after or before food along with a large glass of water.

The other thing is are you drinking enough?….. your target is 2 litres of water a day…… every day.

  • I was taking ondansentron (IV day 1, pill days 2, 3) and metoclopramide (days 1 and 2 mostly) as antiemetics, then omeprazol daily to help with steroids. I wouldn't go to the toilet until day 4. I wasn't eating much those 3 days tbh. Stomach was not hurting as such but did resemble the feeling of being (very) hungover.

Consultant gave me some Laxido to take if I was feeling too bloated or didn't go for 4 days, but I never had it.

After those 3 days I would just have 'normal' toilet visits.
