Hello everyone ,
I was diagnosed at the beginning of January.
I live in a block of flats which is always filthy & lifts are always breaking .
Ive asked mg housing for a medical transfer and was wondering if anyone has done the same & if they have had any luck ?
Hi Bonniek96 and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your HL diagnosis and the challenges you are having.
I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.
I don’t have Hodgkin's Lymphoma but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with my first type of rare Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma…… eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare aggressive type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.…… although I have not been in the same position with regarding to your housing issues….
There can be various Side Effects of Treatments with a real Risk of infection so care needs to be taken to control infections…… as a smoke infection could develop into Chest Infections, Lung Fungal Infections, Pneumonia and Neutropenic Sepsis.
You also have to consider Cancer-related fatigue developing over your treatment turning one flight of stairs into climbing Mount Everest.
Let’s see if anyone has first hand experience that can help you out.
My initial thoughts…..
Get your GP, Consultant or your CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist - if you have one) to write a letter highlighting the challenges you are going to have over your treatment and present this to your housing managing company/association.
Contact your local councillor to highlight your case.
You could also call the Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… and explain your challenges as this service provides practical information, benefits and financial guidance.
If you have a local Citizens Advice Centre, Local Macmillan Support or Maggie's Centre and n your area they have advisers who may be able to help you out.
Always around to chat.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
