Got my diagnosis today.  Classical HL.  Start 6months chemo Monday, being admitted for a couple of days to keep an eye on how I respond. ABVD regime every 2 weeks I believe.  Strangely optimistic.

  • Hi Chris

You have every reason to be optimistic. I was in the same boat as you back in 2010, it was such a relief to get a diagnosis and treatment plan after all my weird symptoms.

Good luck with the treatment, it's bloody hard work so be kind to yourself.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Chris,

welcome to this “community “ . I had HL stage 4 back in 2019. Had ABVD as well . I had 6 treatments ( scan after 4) all of it had gone except a tiny bit in my hip so went on to have a few other treatments, but no point in confusing you with this at the moment as you will hopefully not been to have anything more than ABVD .

i got the all clear the following June and although I was weak and a bit shell shocked I was absolutely fine .. I am not back to pre lymphoma diagnosis and feel great!!

ABVD is every two weeks , I felt fine for a few days then tired and achy for a few days , back to normal after that ready to start again. Never felt sick although took anti sickness tablets . Mouth was sore once which hurts but have mouthwash   Should help .

i can go on and on about treatment but everyone copes very differently. I never ever thought I would die of HL and tried to treat it all as “job” that I just had to get on with it . I of course had tons of support from my Husband , family and friends and of course the whole cancer care team at both Bolton and The Christie .

you will be fine but happy to give any advice anytime ,

    Take care .. Lisa .

  • Hi Chris - Same for me last year, had escBEACOP instead of ABVD, so it was every 3 weeks.

I felt optimistic too, you follow a protocol and are under close medical supervision, plus it is a treatment plan that has been around for many years because it has positive outcomes. So I felt in control and controlled. Before the full diagnosis I didn't feel this way and I was very lost because I didn't know what it could be. I also felt very reassured starting treatment because you have a 24/7 line to specialist nurses, before this you just rely on getting lucky with a GP appointment.

All the best for Monday and for the next few months!
