A year down the line and I’m still feeling so tired. I absolutely hate it. I was extremely active but now I do a fraction of exercise that I used to and still have days where I’m absolutely drained and can’t do anything or want to speak to anyone as that’s effort. My oncologist thinks this is normal and a side effect of the radiotherapy and chemotherapy that I had. It’s really getting me down and no idea when this fog will lift forever. I can cope with the mushy memory but can’t live without running/cycling and walking.
anyone else have this or had it and through the other side?
Hi again MrsMac24……. your consultant is correct in that how you feel and the time this is taking to recover is normal.
Near the end of my main treatment my Consultant told me that going through treatments like these was like doing a boxing match and a marathon every day over the months of treatments and this was done without any training.
Think doing the London Marathon (you especially will understand being a runner) without any training and you had to finish it as your life depended on it……. this is the journey you have been on so it most likely will take much longer than you would think to get back to some normality - it took me a good 2 years, for context I was 60 at the start of my recuperation
Yes some folks bounce back quickly post treatment but more than often folks take a considerable amount of time to recover.
At 3 months post my last treatment I was just out of my wheelchair and able to do a few steps with my walking sticks, having physiotherapy 2 times a week for months then went to a cancer specific circuits class once a week run by a trained cancer instructor. The problem there is significant muscle mass and often nerve damage down during treatment so this takes time to rebuild it and get back to normal…… again for context I am now 66+ years old and as active and fit as any 66 year old.
Hi ,
I am 1.5 years out of treatment and totally understand how you feel . I was so weak but slowly but surely I got stronger and stronger . I started to do short keep fit training session . I do Lucy Wyndham Read videos on you tube . She does short 7 minutes and you can do them in the privacy of your own house and if you need to stop , you can . I was rubbish and couldn’t really even jog ( neuropathy is vile ) but now I’m 100% better .
I have started swimming again too .. So my advise , don’t be hard on yourself , little bit every day and you will soon be feeling much much stronger .
good luck !!
lisa Brook
