Avenue Trail.

Have to say although I got this news this morning I am still somewhat shocked.
I was diagnosed in September with Classical Hodgkins Lymphoma. I was told it was very aggressive and at stage 4b.
They were going to start me the next week on ABVD 6 cycles.
After the MTD meeting I was offered the chance to do a trial prior to Chemo. Remembering Mikes advise to trust my team I agreed.
After 2 cycles of the trial immunotherapy ( which was great for me with only a bit of joint pain as a side effect ) I had a pet scan for the trial and then moved onto ABVD.
I had a good partial response from the trial drug. However a new hotspot on my spine showed up causing confusion. After 1 cycle of Chemo it was decided to do another pet scan last Monday to make sure the hotspot wasn’t growing.
I went in today for my bloods and see the consultant ahead of tomorrow’s chemo and to get the results from Monday’s scan.
Complete response, no cancer found.Open mouth
I forgot to add that what they are hoping for from the trial drug is that once they get you to remission, your immune system will be able to recognise the cancer and prevent it returning.
Many thanks to Dr Graham Collins at Oxford University Hospital for accepting me onto the trial as it is his baby.

  • Great news and an encouragement to others starting out on the journey.

  • That's Great news. It's so good that these trials exist!

My hubby started his journey in the Churchill there before we transferred his treatment to Plymouth. The staff there were great and so supportive despite me crying discreetly into my mask, or trying to without my hubby seeing!

He too is on the avenue trial. Similar to you, he had a spot on his spine too after the immunotherapy drug! In fact the cancer came out of his hip and into his spine!

He had a positive response after abvd, dropped to AVD and then was declared technical remission in March.

7 weeks later he had to be rescanned due to issues and unfortunately his cancer returned and we now await further results from biopsy and treatment.

Through Facebook I found another person who's partner is on the trial too. I believe he had a similar result in the sense that he had a partial response after immunotherapy, then abvd then AVD and got the remission scan. Truely great news!

It's a tough thing to go through, I wish you well with your recovery and hope you have lots of support in place.

    Best wishes,
