Hi everyone,

my daughter had her first abvd treatment on 31st July. She started getting symptoms of most things on day 5 really and still has some. She has had a bit of everything. The worst bits are stomach pain,  Which made eating anything really uncomfortable, but she has no appetite anyway! She has red rashes on the sides of her stomach,Tiny  itchy bumps on Her hands,  & numb finger tips,! ( neuropathy)  The chest pain has gone, but still gets short of breath.

you read all the symptoms about the common side affects, but not really much about skin or stomach problems! She also has burning pain in her pee but tested negative for infection, but was given antThinkingiotics anyway which stopped it, but since the antibiotics stopped it has come back again. She seems to have loads of things! I won’t mention  the rest ! Thinking

Would love any feed back

thank you

Julie

  • Hi Julie,

is she drinking enough water? As sometimes (especially in this heat) dehydration can give symptoms similar to a urine infection, and dealing with just a glass of water at least every hour can help sort this out.

her specialist nurse should be the person to contact about the rashes on her tummy and bumpy bits on hands, it may be they will prescribe an antihistamine to help, and also use that at the start of her treatment next time? They will be the best to talk that through, but you’re doing totally right by asking about things here too! You are seldom alone with a site like this!
eating little and often is the right way through the tummy pains, hope it’s not the dreaded constipation? As that shouldn’t be ignored....

Hi mommy I hope your keeping well.
she is drinking about 2 litres a day, so that should be fine. She’s due to see her nurse next week so she will have a word then. She suffers with ibs so she gets constipated, so it could be a combination of things

    thank you for your advice

    Hi  Julie

my daughter had a lot of chest pain and stomach pain , they have put her on lansoprazole for her stomach , she also had Numbness in her hands and her toes but that’s improved . Also shortness of breath but that gets better as the days pass  and the chemo is wearing off .
MY daughter keeps a diary and records any side affects big or small so the nursing team can discuss with the consultant .

hope things improve for your daughter in the next few days, my daughter started to feel a lot better by day 9 , hopefully her appetite will come back once she starts to feel a bit better my daughter finds sucking on boiled sweets  helps with horrible taste she gets in her mouth and drinking smoothies helps with lack of appetite. Another thing she does is she has actimel yogurt every day to help her stomach .

Hi Sharon I hope you are keeping well, how is your daughter getting on.?

thank you for your reply, it’s reassuring to know the symptoms are the chemo. Everyone’s experience is different, so no two people are really the same, so when you do hear that someone else has the same symptoms,it does help to understand it .

    thank you

    take care

    Hi Julie

my daughter is doing ok she had her chemo Friday, she has three more to go now , the last couple have been hard for her I think her body is now saying it’s had enough, she has had to have injections for low white cell count the last few times  she had chemo . But she is still in fighting spirits.

Hope your daughter is feeling a bit better now, has she been put on the trial you was saying about ?

With myself I don’t know about you but I have good days and then bad days, but I try and push on as I know my daughter is staying positive so if she can do it with what she is going through then so can I .

    take care you too.
