Hi not posted on here for a while , my daughter started abvd 2 months ago after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma stage 4b .
she has just had her interim pet scan results , the nurse called her today telling her she has had a partial response to treatment. She does not want to talk about what else was said and is very down about what was discussed, I am so worried about her and am in the dark about what was said about what’s next . Does anyone know what would be the plan if she has only had a partial response ? Would it be continue with treatment of which she has another 7 more to go or would they change the chemo ? .
hopefully when she’s had a chance to digest the news she will want to talk about it .
It's hard to know whether her treatment plan is likely to be changed without more information.
People often get despondent if mid-point scans don't show a complete response because we all hope for an early and complete response. My haemotologist no longer does them routinely because they can cause so much unnecessary stress.
Rest assured, though, that her trip will make the best decision possible regarding her treatment - whether that is continuing the current course or changing to something new.
I hope you are able to find some peace of mind in the fact that she is responding to treatment and that you know more soon.
Hi , a partial response is great and for many this is a normal result mid treatment. Yes some folks will show a mote significant difference...... both good and bad.
Being the positive person I am I see this going in the right direction and as the effects of treatment on the growth areas are accumulative, there is still work to do so this is not that unexpected.
A partial response compared to no response and a change of treatment plan would be a downer so they will keep to the plan and review as they go.
This is an emotional journey for your daughter and all she is looking for is this to work ‘now’ but she needs to see that this will have to run it’s course.
It’s like taking a course of antibiotics, you feel great after a few days so you stop them..... then a few days later you are just as bad and back to square one,
((hugs))
Hi yes I think it’s one of the better scenarios . They have decided to keep her on abvd for now , she sees her consultant beginning of July so will hopefully get more info then . I think she was hopeful that they would be able to take out the b in the abvd but they are not going to .
thank you for your continued support it’s much appreciated
sharon
