I should have joined this a while back but so many things in life pushed this back.

I have been surviving from HL since April when I was able to ring the bell after six months of bi weekly chemo.

I thought it would be great to ring the bell but when that day came I just didn't feel I had the right to do that. It took a bit of time staring at the bell and some encouragement from the staff before I did.

Does it give hope to others still getting treatment or does it make them sad for themselves? That was where I was.

I don't feel I survived HL that is why I say I am surviving and not a survivor of HL.

I may sound a bit melancholy above but that was the feeling at the time, I am in a good place now and life is starting to move in the right direction. So now it's the time for me support others.

Peace.

  • Hello,

and what a difficult time you’ve been through, this ‘bell’ thing seems to happen a lot now. I’m not convinced it’s a good thing, to be honest.

But it’s great to know you feel in a good enough place now to think about popping in here to help others!

I still stick around, daughter had a long struggle with her very persistent HL but is ok now, but then I got cancer myself (breast) but still pop in here to see if I can help.

  • Hi  and welcome, although not the place you would have looked to join a few years back. But so good you have come out the other end of the tunnel and this indeed will be a great encouragement to others looking in.

What you are feeling can be identified by lots of folks on these groups. I had NHL and a long treatment journey - no bells in my two treatment units, it was all about getting through and out the other end.

I an 4 years post my last treatment although have had a few years being hospitalised with various medical issues. But I am also in a good place, looking forward and aiming to live this new life, this new opportunity to the full.

You may want to make a cup of tea or coffee and have a look at this great paper that helps to identify the milestones of post treatment recovery.

it might help others to understand your situation if you fill a bit of info on your profile?

  • Hi

I actually agree abut the bell thing, I feel its a bit gimmicky but perhaps a good thing for kids.

I don't think our consultant had much time for it, and really its not as finite as it tries to make you feel.

Of course its nice to ring it, but even once in Complete Remission, the battle isn't always over, even though one should of course remain positive.
