Hi Guys,
just wanted to know if anyone had a similar experience or had any advice.
My husband is in his first year of remission from Hodgkin lymphoma stage 4a. He had a follow up check a few weeks ago and his bloods were all really good plus the hodgkins enzyme test they do came back clear. His oncologist said he didn’t need any scans and to come back in another few months for his third check.
About 2 weeks after this he got a bad cold and it’s improved but he has had this annoying little cough that won’t shift. Obviously my mind goes straight to something sinister! I guess what I want to know is that the blood tests would show up an issue if his hodgkins had returned wouldn’t it ? Plus his body is probably still slightly comprised from chemo ( he finished that last November ...I think he probably just needs antibiotics or rest ...he works very hard and long hours any comments greatly appreciated
Hi , great that he is clear after his last clinic.
Hi body has been through a lot and is still in recovery - there are a lot of bugs been going around and as you say, his immune system is still in recovery mode. A month back I had that type of cough but it did pass, just taking longer than normal.
But it is always worth checking in with his team or GP just to make sure and get any meds if they are required.
((hugs))
Hi Minks,
sometimes after treatment for HL a persistent cough can be really annoying, might be worth him getting checked out by GP; but bear in mind he’s gone back to work after a hefty amount of treatment and the bugs in workplaces do abound and give trouble!
Hugs xxx
Moomy
Thank you very much .....I’ve made him an app at his GP for the end of next week to give it another week to clear. He is much better than he was and not getting as much green gunk coming up - yuck ! As you say I think the little tickle cough is just taking a bit longer to shift. He is not concerned at all ...just me ! Haha
My son has HL advanced and is nearly through his treatment. Whilst having this chemo, he had a cold and cough but got over it in a few days, but being stuck in the same room at hospital with him, me and my wife also got it. We have had a cough and cold, but 3 weeks later both me and her have this annoying cough, just like when you try to catch your breath it makes you cough.
It really has been persistent, though neither of us feel rough like we did the first week.
Increasingly, I find that the common cough and cold strain has mutated, in the sense that it takes weeks to shift. Maybe its age related, but I don't remember coughs and colds being like this when I was younger.
Anyway, just wanted to reassure you that coughs and colds are commonly lingering these day. Me and my wife have both commented on this.
Thank you Nick that was really kind. He is much better than he was and the cough is now confined to morning and even that is slowly getting better ...just as you say lingering. Glad to hear your son is almost finished with his treatment ...he will be joining my husband in remission soon. Hooray !
