Hi all just a quick update, life has thankfully moved on and eating has been improving, still can’t manage anything acidic which surprise surprise is in most every day foods , tomatoes Tomato and vinegar is added to quite a bit which means eating out can be challenging. I still need to drink a lot of water with my food to help it go down and still have a very dry mouth at night mainly but I use Xylimelts which were recommended by Peter I believe, thanks they do work for me!

A couple of bumps in the road for me have been not long after my 1st scan a small lump clear in colour that was coming and going after eating , not all the time but on the side of my tongue, I was really freaked out by that but a trip to dentist told me that it was not cancer and possibly a mucous retention cyst, or Mucococle , or frictional keratosis and that was a result of the RT and it would go on its own just keep it clean.. which I do with my various tools including my new tongue scraper ,,,which is great as my tongue always takes on the taste of whatever I have last drank or eaten,, yuk!

So just getting to grips with that then only a few days ago I had sharp shooting pains in my neck/ jaw , I was thinking omg has it spread  to lymph nodes ( getting to be such a worrier these days) .. called my nurse , the lymphedhema clinic and then my dentist, dentist saw me straight away.. said it was an infection in my wisdom tooth which is located close to the primary site and where the RT was heavily targeted at.. So now on antibiotics, hopefully that will clear up the infection , but she said I will need it out when I am able to.
I range between feeling absolutely fab getting in with life and enjoying the nice weather then feeling , down a bit low and a bit sorry for myself .. especially when sitting at the table eating out with the family and friends.
I have to remember I’m still early days yet and I have so much to be grateful for and at least I feel more human again !
Anyhow sorry if I have been  bit long winded ,, felt I needed to share with my fellow new found friends! And anyone else going through this too or just starting out on their journey to recovery Heart️‍

  • Hi Cat. You are doing well and thanks for letting us know. There are lots of little niggles as you’ve found out. I’ve always had a three week rule. If something new persists for three weeks I get it looked at. Your cyst is really common and some folk have multiple ones , especially after eating.
The xylimelts are great and I find chewing gum during the day is good.

I hope your tooth settles but one word of advice  extraction is a hospital job, not your dentist

    Best foot forward. Hugs

  • Hi Cat18, it sounds like you are doing really well. Like you say it is still early days for you, so it will be ups and downs, but as time goes by, there will be more ups. Don't worry you will get there, just give yourself the time to recover.

    Ray.

  • Hi thanks Dani I have been using your 3 week rule , apart from on the shooting pains Grinninggood to know I am not the only one going through this. I always had cats when I was working. Most of them were rescues but once I treated myself to a Cornish Rex. I went to collect her and came back with her brother too. I’m now cat less and I do miss them.
