Hi everyone, I am really struggling to maintain my weight through CRT. I had oral surgery to remove tumours from gum, cheekbone and roof of mouth. My mouth opening is limited so can't use full size cutlery and one one small area of my mouth to chew. I have really bad ulcers that have stopped me eating solid food. For the past few weeks I have been taking the supplements but these are just making me sick now as they are so creamy. I can sometimes manage 1 weetabix and a mashed banana. I've lost 2½lb again this week. Can anyone suggest anything that isn't going to make me feel so sick please? I have to syringe into my mouth to avoid damaging my reconstructed palate and avoid the ulcers. I'm also a vegetarian. As I'm only 2 weeks off finishing RT I'm trying to avoid an NG tube. Thank you Ali
Speak to your dieticians to see what other drinks they can offer. There are non dairy alternatives that might be kinder in your stomach. You are going to need something for the next six weeks or so.

Hi Dani, I tried the lactose free last week and they are sending a prescription to my GP.
Hopefully that might help. Hugs

Hi Ali. I can only manage puree as a result of my ops and have found that you can make quite a variety in smoothies that are nutritious. I use milk as a base but you could water it down if it is too creamy or use a substitute like oat or almond milk. I puree together milk, soft fruit, yoghurt or icecream and peanut paste to get more calories. I also puree in a variety of soft fruit to my weetbix plus custard or yoghurt. For something more savoury I puree together a variety of steamed veg with veg stock, yoghurt and any herbs I might have around. I sometimes use my drink supplement instead of milk in the smoothies to add extra calories. There are any number of home made soups that are very nutritious that you can puree. I've found that I am only limited by my imagination. However when you are not feeling well it can be hard to come up with ideas. If you can find one or two that may help you get over this difficult time. I have had a lot longer to work out recipes and you do get quite a variety under your belt in the end.
I'm afraid it is only natural to lose some weight during this time but you will put it back on eventually as I did.
Best wishes
Lyn
