Merry Christmas all
Wondering what some of your experiences have been post treatment eg 1, 2 or 3 years plus after?
I found it interesting that I had to pay for a flu jab (apparently our immune system is only depleted during treatment ), yet at 18 months, post treatment, I’m still getting told ‘ooh you’re immune system will still be struggling’ and that’s from nhs staff too.
I ask because I’m struggling of late, 2 very bad sore throats in the last month. Last one ended up in my sinus, very painful!! The chemist gave me a strong nasal spray for this, could that have given me ‘thrush’!? Had my eight week check on Friday and the consultant suggested I may have ‘thrush’ and had I had any antibiotics recently? To which I replied ‘no’. It’s so painful to swallow and any dry food is grating.
Anyway, sorry to go on, but my question is ‘how have you gone on post treatment, do you feel your immune system struggled for some time’?
obviously it’s hard not to worry when you’ve had cancer in your tonsils and glands. Then you have numerous sore throats and sore swollen glands ♀️
On a positive, life has been just wonderful this last year!! Lots of travelling (not wasting a single moment!!) eg Canada, Nepal, India, Oz and New Zealand….and even better, I’m getting married in June!! Day before my 60th, making every day count
Best wishes to all for a happy and health 2026
Deborah
My oncologist told me that I would be prone to sore throats more easily and to apply the three week rule. I must say I did get more in the first two years but not owing to immunity failure but more to the fact that the mucous membranes are still damaged.
Paracetamol and lots of warm hydration helped me and none of my sore throats lasted more than the three weeks.
How is your tummy? I’m on landsoprazole still. Silent reflux can play havoc with the throat.

Thanks for your response Angela, it’s just reassuring to know isn’t it, that others are having similar experiences. The horror of it all seems like a distant memory now, but these little things are a niggling reminder.
Ive honestly ‘lived’ more this year, than I have in the last 10 …….Enjoy Cuba and long may the adventures continue for us all
