I had my RIG feeding tube fitted on Monday. It all went well. Came home from hospital last night and I'm doing fine. Having a pyjama day and pottering round the house today. I've seen a few posts recently where people are apprehensive about having feeding tubes. It didn't hurt having it put in because I was well sedated. All I was aware of was some poking and prodding. It felt a bit sore as the anaesthetic wore off, but some paracetamol quickly sorted that out. I'm just a bit tired today and I'm slow moving about, not too much bending and stretching yet.
They are going to give me a few days to fully recover, and then I'm going in for the jaw reconstruction surgery this Sunday.
Hi Margaret, and good news you've coped so well with your RIG.
My hubby liked his but once he passed his swallow test he didn't need to use it again. It was kept in place for a few months though, just in case. The district nurse removed it, a quick, simple process, and all that's left is what resembles a third nipple
Sending you all the best for Sunday and big hugs xxx
Hello. Yes, I am one of those who feel apprehensive. Your post provides some reassurance; it's not the pain that concerns me, but I have a tendency to pass out.
