Hi all

I got overwhelmed with emotion when given my husband's list of upcoming appointments for CRT this morning at his mask moulding and CT appointment.

Has anyone else felt like this? I suddenly felt like we have lost control of our lives. Like the hospital are taking over our whole existence and also our kids Christmas.

Sorry but I feel like I'm on a treadmill and I can't get off. To them it's a list of appointments to us it's much more than that. It just makes me feel sick

  • Hi Fry - I am about to set off on the same Journey as your husband having seen oncologist for first time last week. My radio and weekly chemo will start at Xmas I need a few teeth removing first (gift that keeps giving). I can only echo the words above you will need to look after yourself. Just my view but it some ways it worse for those around us as you feel powerless. I have had to encourage my wife to go part time for a period and we are lucky that we can do this but this is as much for her to give her some head room to deal with the whole situation. Please look after yourself it’s one of the most important things you can do for both of u. reg

  • Hi Reg, you may be interested in my post  just now on the  "feeding tube" thread.

  • Hi Reg

Good luck with your upcoming treatment which will be tough but very doable. Your observation as to how this process impacts those closest to us, the need to create head space and support structures for them is so true. There were a couple of things we put in place that helped both of us, there are also support services provided by organisations such as Maggie’s and very valuable help and advice we got from here.  The goal is ultimately for us to be treated successfully whilst trying to minimise the worry for those around us.

Best of luck over the coming weeks and please let us know how you are getting on.

    Best Wishes

  • Hi Micky - struggling to find your post on NSG ? Sorry - reg

  • Thanks Reg. My husband starts next Monday 1st December with Chemo 1 and radiotherapy. He may be slightly in front of you but please do keep in touch as we can share our journey's together.

  • Just on way back from Birmingham dental hospital - 2 wisdom teeth gone 2 more on Thursday. All part of journey - small steps - team there were very good but under a lot of pressure to get acute cases like ours through in line with the targets that have been set.

  • Hope it wasn't too painful for you. I'll let you know how day 1 goes on Monday for us.

  • Hi all. Day 1 today. Chemotherapy (Carboplatin) 1/2 Radiotherapy 1/35. Hubby did really well, no problems yet with any of it. I wouldn't really have expected any at this stage and if there was it would be chemo related. He's happy to go in to work tomorrow and no-one objected to that as long as he feels OK. I will say that although it's a journey and we don't know how the side effects will affect him, for now it feels like a relief to be on the treadmill and to begin to tick off the appointments. My mum always says the quicker you start the quicker you'll finish !

  • Hi Donna and Ade...

Good news that you are off and running and your first day went as well as can be expected.

Make sure your hubby listens to his body as does the right thing by it.

    Best wishes
