I wondered how often others have scans after cancer treatment is done.
I assumed it depends on the stage and type of the cancer? My treatment in each case was simply removal of the affected areas, no chemo or adjuvant therapy as in each case it was early stage, but for my womb cancer they don't scan, they do a physical examination at various intervals but after the first year they kind of shoved me onto a telephone follow-up (?!) and after that one, despite having laid out for me the plans for follow ups at six monthly intervals after the first year, they then turned round and said no follow ups needed and I was to contact them if I suspected anything changing/returning...(??!!)
For my kidney, they are going to scan at six months and then at 18 months and then at three years I think he said. But given the laxity over my womb cancer, I am half expecting them to write me off there also after a year or two. It might also depend on resources in one's local health authority area.
PET/CT at 16 weeks and that's it. Regular review including nasoendoscopy at increasing intervals for five years, then on to PIFU

Hi Maite I too read your novel.....I thought, "Oh no! Is she here in head and neck because she has another cancer?" Thank heavens you don't. I think you sound like Miss Marple without the sleuthing, a pillar of the village. I fell in love with your story (apart from the gruesome bits...thanks I have enough of my own) straight away. Thanks for letting us in to your life.

I haven’t had any and I finished RT on 20th December 24.
My consultant doesn’t see the need for it at the moment and I ask at every 3 month appointment if that’s still the case, it was at my last one. He said it would be different if I had chemotherapy as he would want to see how the chemotherapy had worked via a scan whereas he cut all of mine out with healthy margins and then I got RT.
He has said if there are any developments (hopefully not) then he would arrange a scan.
If he's happy then all is good...hopefully you'll never have the need for scans.
