So here we are in week 8 of recovery and my poor husband feels like crap. He continues to battle thrush and is now on fluconazole day 3. His tongue and throat hurt and he has no desire to eat. I thought he would be so much farther along at this point. I am feeling a bit down. He continues to plant his garden and work outside and take a daily nap. I am finding it so hard to see him like this for so long. I keep waiting for the morning that he says he feels much better!! Thank you all for being here!!
Hi Rara2
I was on morphine till 12 weeks before I could start a taper.
I thought he would be so much farther along at this point.
Recovery is so much of an individual thing. There are no real fixed milestones. One thing I would say is maybe he shouldn't push himself too hard, instead channelling his energy into recovery.

It takes a while for recovery to kick in, thrush does tend to get in the way but treatment should work eventually. I found gardening very therapeutic, took my mind off the dark thoughts.
Recovery is hard on the partners and carers, not an easy watch.

Hi Rara2
The side effects of RT are very harsh and it can take a while before we feel better. The best thing for your husband is to take each day at a time and try to do activities that he enjoys and feels up to. I did feel frustrated too after my treatment as it took me quite a while before I could eat food again ( I had a lot of mouth ulcers) and I was so tired, but I progressively learnt not to be too harsh on myself and look after myself. I did a lot of mindfulness and even took up knitting. We are all different and therefore as Beesuit says, there is no fixed milestone. He will get there. It just takes time.

Hu Rafa has we’ve said before it’s a marathon not a sprint you really can’t rush recovery let him recover at his own pace. Like Dani I was still on oramorph at week 10/11 My oncologist said he was looking to cure me he did but also said it would take a year out of my life in return for many more it did that as well.
But I’m living a great life. Sometimes we forget the treatments is hard but it is killing cancer which is no mean feat.
I had 2 x2 weeks if Flucozonole to treat my oral thrush so give it time

Thanks for all of your support!! This is hard, but you are all so helpful and make it a little easier!!
Can't disagree with that Rara.
Joining this community has quelled some of my worst fears as I, too, have to witness my poor fella going through the mill every day. I'd swap places with him in a heartbeat but I can't, so instead do everything I can to try and get him through this awful time.
Sending you and your husband all my very best wishes as I know exactly what you're going through.
Take care.
