Hi just wondering if anyone who has had operation on tongue and head neck dissection not reconstruction still gets the odd ulcer on cheeks or tongue . Does anyone's tongue still feel very tight and sore where the operation was. Does this get any better. This time last year I started my RT so I'm about ten half months post treatment. Just wondering if my mouth will ever feel pain free or is this all normal within the time frame. It always feels so sensitive and the tongue scar is super sensitive. Thank you Jackie.
Hi I didn’t have surgery but had 35 radiotherapy and 2 chemo I’m now 7 years post treatment and still can get the occasional U.K. we if I try a new food. For the first 2-3 years ulcers were a regular thing they never lasted longer than a week but I kept a food diar6 and tomatoes were a big culprit for me alongside acidic or citric. I used aloclair or if 8 still had some gelclair. During treatment i developed an ulcer from tip of tongue all down the side thus area was very dentists for years now it’s just smooth no nodules on it al all.
as usual any ulcer lasting 3 weeks I was always told to contact my team ,I never had one last that long.

Thank you Hazel, I tend to eat the same foods as they work for me. Might have to change things a little to see if something is irritating my mouth. My tongue is so sensitive and can be so sore if irritated . My tongue seems to rest on my teeth the side that was operated on and that causes irritation too. I have found myself wearing my mouth guard during the day as well to try and prevent this. X
Hi Jg123. I did not have the same cancer as you but jaw cancer but I have the same issue with my tongue resting on the very few teeth I have left which somtimes causes an ulcer. The teeth are caving inwards which causes the issue. The dentist at the Dental Hospital smoothed the area of my teeth down a bit with a drill and this has helped quite a lot. Could the dentist see if there is anything that can be done to smooth down your teeth a bit although may not be practical or a solution in your situation but just worth checking out.
