When to start eating curries

Hi all,

I'm 7 months post RT and gradually eating different things although I have no appetite and cant eat more than a quarter portion of dinner. This may be due to having 2 Fresubin daily but I need the calories so that I can have my rig removed once I put on weight.

i brought an Indian takeaway recently which was the mildest curry with rice and sag aloo and I wasn’t able to eat any of it due to my mouth feeling like it was on fire. It really upset me as apparently it tasted lovely.

How long does it generally take to be able to eat curries after RT?

  • Hey Sue x I had a couple of curry attempts at around 6 months post treatment. Managed tandoori chicken but curries were a bit of a challenge (and I started with a korma). The following six months were better and I even managed a dhansak / pathia (my favourites). Can eat most things now though every so often I’m caught out with fresh chillies! So, keep experimenting and try not to get frustrated… hopefully it will improve and you’ll be enjoying all / most of your favourites in the coming months x

  • Thanks Liesle I really hope I can eat them in the future. It’s great to hear that you are able to now along with quite a few others so I won’t give up hope.

  • About 6 months,  a very mild korma. A year post and I’m back to regular curries but I need them slightly milder than before

  • You will. It seems like a long slog but it does get better as does the appetite

  • Thanks Des it’s so frustrating not being able to eat favourite foods. I hope you’re right and I look forward to reaching a year post RT although I’ve still 5 months to go! Sue

  • When I was at your stage, I made a post saying “Will the joy of eating ever return”. I felt just like you do now.
    Hugs, you’ll get there
