So got my appointment to see oncologist pushed forward a week so went Thursday. Anyway it wasn't my oncologist it was one of her understudies because she was unavailable. He went through all the checks in my mouth and felt my neck ect. He finally said that the pet scan had shown that the treatment had total response. Talked about nutrition and that my rig could come out in the next 2 weeks. (Still having supplements orally)

But wouldn't discharge me until I'd had my neck MRI which is today. So booked to see oncologist again in 4 weeks.

He also took the wind out of my sails by telling me recurrence is usually within 2 years of treatment !! So will be having checks etc with my ENT consultant. I just think my oncologist would have relayed it a bit better but hey ho , started my anxiety off again!

Yes that’s right. It’s why we are seen frequently for the first two years then checks tail off. Onward and forward. You’ll be fine.

  • So happy for you that your treatment had total response, such good news!  Good luck on the rest of your journey!

I find that sometimes doctors don't realize how hard this is as they see it everyday.  The anxiety of it all is tough to deal with.

  • Hi Spider3  treatment having total response is great news. The checkups you will be having now over the next 5 years, will be very reassuring. If you can try not to worry about recurrence (easier said than done, I know) it doesn't happen so much with head and neck cancers.

  • Hi. We all get told the same as others have says we’re seen more regularly in first 2 years. Then it raises off to the last 2 years every 6 months. Head and neck cancers reoccurrence s are lie so file it and forget don’t waste your life thinking if the what it’s think if the what now. As I say one life just live it.
