Hi Everyone Heart

I would like some advice about travelling and Insurance and was wanting to ask how long it was after treatment that you had holidays abroad?

I was diagnosed with Oropharyngeal Cancer Squamous Cell Carcinoma 16 positive with 1 lymph node affected in my neck (Story and updates etc to follow shortly)

I finished my Chemo 6wk course of  Cistplatin on the 30th August last year and my course of Radiotherapy on the 10th September.

I saw my consultant on the 6th February after my 12wk Petscan for results and he said the all my treatment had worked and no Cancer was visible (I am elated)

I would really appreciate some help on the travel insurance and the companies that you used.

Love Sarah-kate xx

  • Hi I travel at least twice a year for long stays in Spain uo to year 5 when we are classed as cancer free up until then we’re classed as in i remission and I found staysure were happy to cover me. Cost for myself and hubby was around twice what it was previously which for 90:day stays I was prepared to pay. sometimes your bank will cover you but the cancer won’t be covered they woukd t do me as I wanted long stays

imwas alsomt2n2 nm no other co morbidity to cover apart from blood pressure

  • Delighted your Pet scan was clear.
Like Hazel I travel twice a year for extended periods, in my case it’s Cyprus. I went the first time 4 months after finishing treatment.  Like you I’d had clear scans.  My insurer LV excluded the cancer, but I wasn’t…am not…too bothered about it.  Flights can be moved, and health care in Cyprus is readily accessible and affordable. Not had any problems so far.

  • Hi Sarah, we went to the USA to see our friends, 10 months after my treatment had finished. We got travel insurance from a company named Insurancewith. The price was very reasonable compared to others, who were quoting up to 3 or 4 times more.

  • Treatment finished in June 2024 and I travelled to Spain in mid October same year - unfortunately didn't quite have the "all clear" before I went so didn't see much pool action with my RIG still being in place !

Used "Insurance With" for insurance and they were excellent. Answered everything honestly and their quotes were significantly cheaper than anywhere else, and the coverage of the policy ticked all the boxes. Ended up paying a little over £30 for the week. Some companies wouldn't quote at all and some were quoting in the two and three hundreds !

Get your well earned holiday booked and go off and have the greatest time ! Smiley

  • Currently away and just docked in Casablanca this morning.  I use my packaged insurance through my Nationwide bank account.  They will not insure anything relating to my cancer, but all other aspects are covered as normal without any enhanced premium.

  • Great news that your scan was clear!  I hope you have a fabulous holiday - you deserve it.

I had a short break to Paris 4 months after treatment, and a gentle walking holiday in Greece a month after that. I already had annual travel insurance with Staysure before I was diagnosed; I had to tell them about it and pay extra. After my 12-week scan was clear they renewed it OK, I think it was about £160 for Europe-wide cover.
