So, let's talk about how we should be looking after our teeth..

I personally, clean with Duraphat + floss as soon as I wake, and last thing before I retire to bed, along with interdentals.. with a swish of BioXtra midday ish..

But, I have some MI Paste+ still in date that I was using early in my treatment, that I wish to add to my routine before bed.

So, do I use Duraphat, wait half hour then apply MI Plus+... or am I overdoing the fluoride?

But, other than that, what recommendations can you make to optimise our dental care?

  • Great idea for a thread Slight smile

I use Biotene Dry Mouth toothpaste straight after breakfast, again after dinner and then last thing before bed. Found it's definitely helped with the dry mouth and doesn't feel quite as "abrasive" as some other toothpastes have.

Also rinse with Difflam 2-3 times a day (Dentist advised not to rinse after brushing teeth though, which I guess makes sense) so typically I'll do that after lunch, and then again at some point in the evening.

Rather than yearly scale and polish I now go every 4 months. Have to pay extra as they're not "scheduled" appointments, as such but it's worth it for peace of mind.

I did ask, at my last appointment, about Flouride varnishes but he said as long as I'm sticking to that brushing routine and getting the regular check-ups, these would just be unnecessary expenses.

  • Hi I have 3 monthly check ups and hygienists gives me a fluoride varnish every 3 months. If u eat sweet thing I try to brush using duraphat 30 mins after eating.
touch wood it’s working as haven’t needed anti g doing in last 6 years. Yes I use interdentals as well.

  • What I do.
Interdental brushes then brush with Oranurse in the morning before breakfast

After breakfast swish out with BioXtra mouthwash.
Brush teeth with Duraphat half hour after lunch

Interdental brushes then brush teeth half hour after Dinner with Duraphat.

Bedtime rinse mouth out with chlorhexedine followed by a dab of MI Paste+ ( the one with fluoride) on the tip of my tongue so I can work it round my teeth. Place night mouth guard. Go to sleep.
Every three months I have a fluoride varnish at the dentist.
I’ve been told by an oncology hygienist that MI paste does more good than fluoride which is why I have gone back to using it at night when it can stick to my teeth all night.
I don’t snack. The same hygienist has told me that snacking on sugar blows away all the good the fluoride does.

  • What is MI paste

It’s a paste that recalcifies your enamel. It’s used a lot in orthodontics.
