Hospital appointment today, was told it is  grade 2 tonsil cancer but couldn’t tell me what the plan is as they messed up and didn’t have the meeting first, this will happen next Monday and they will call me Tuesday with the plan. They did tell me I have HPV which  is positive.

  • Hi and welcome.

I too had tonsil cancer, diagnosed in June. I’ve had two surgeries since and I am just about to complete 30 sessions of radiotherapy.

This forum is full of advice and good pointers from people who have been in a similar boat. The fact that it’s HPV+ is a good thing as this type responds better to treatment. Mine was too.

stay off of google. It doesn’t help. It is full of outdated information or stuff that is just plain false and alarming. This forum is better, along with the MacMillan/NHS website.

  • Hi, Julie welcome to the group. Sorry you have had this news today, and that they can't yet tell you your treatment plan, you will feel better about the whole thing when you get your plan and even more so, when your treatment gets under way. Be assured these types are very curable, and the treatment does give very high rates of cure, there are many of us here who are living proof of that. We are all here to help you when we can, any worries or questions, just ask.

    Ray.

    Hi Julie.
Stage two HPV positive is what I was I was diagnosed with, as a result of the stage  I  escaped chemotherapy. Six weeks of RT cured me and I am very well nearly six years later.
Hold onto the fact that HPV driven throat cancer has a cure rate in excess of 90%. The treatment is tough, doable and lasts only a few weeks. Recovery takes a long time but stay with us. We’ll have your back through it all.

  • Welcome to the forum Julie, and sorry to hear your news.

Can only echo the posts from everybody else on here. Google is your worst enemy right now. Unfortunately I didn't know about these forums until I was well into treatment, so "depended" on Google and it brought nothing but frequent bouts of anxiety. These forums are an excellent resource and very reassuring.

As has also been said the treatment for these cancers is very successful. Sure it's hard, but it is mercifully short. Stay in touch via here and we will be with you all the way through your journey.

I was graded 4 tonsil/neck in March this year, and got the "in remission" just a few weeks ago. Recovery has been tough and still has its ups and downs but generally gets better bit by bit.

And if a comparative wimp like me can get through it, anybody can! All the best Slight smile
