Does anybody have some Ideas to get me through the holidays. This is going to be so hard. My radiation was in June and I am still Not getting better

  • Hi again. Is it the swelling in your mouth and the lack of saliva that is still bothering you?
If you pop a brief history in your profile it lets us answer you better.
You haven’t mentioned in your previous posts exactly what you have had done.
Anyway, back to your question. Do you have a Maggie’s near you? A visit there would be a good start.
Are you spending time with your family?

  • Try to stick to food that you know you can eat. Don't try anything new. Take your time and make sure you have a quiet place you can get away from the family. Make sure they know you need to beforehand. Don’t try to be brave. You really do need to take it easy.

  • Hi Hidden Valley,

We all have a different journey. Try to enjoy what you can have and most importantly enjoy eating. Try to focus on the quality time you will have with your loved ones not on the food you wish you could have but cannot have YET. You will get there, you just need to take baby steps. When eating was very difficult I used to eat watching my favourite series so that the focus was not on the food. I know the treatment and the side effects are tough but things will get better.

Sending you loads of positive vibes.

  • That makes me feel better. I hate to say that, but mine has been since June and I am impatient.

  • Hi my treatment finished August 2018 christmas  dinner that year was just me and hubby I declined all family offers, but did have everyone in Christmas Eve for a Buffett where I could pick and choose I made sure I had eaten before so I could entertain and enjoy them enjoying themselves without the pressure to perform.

Christmas Day we pared right down I had a small tea plate and hubby had a full size plate  we did a small turkey from marks and Spencer it was a thigh ( wrapped in bacon ) in a foil tray less hassle, roast potatoes veg and lashings if gravy. No starters and a trifle ( easy to eat) . The following year it was service as usual thjnk we had 13 for lunch that year I was eating g much better but turkey breast or chicken breast is hard 6 years in .

Dont put yourself under stress we all know where you’re coming from Christmas is such a social time, just because treatments  finished doesn’t mean we’re up and running its a marathon nit a sprint. Sip soda water people never know what you are  drinking

I used to re read this article and give it to friends if you’ve  not seen it give  it a read and pas in to family .

like Dani a year to feel good 6 months to feel better,  8 weeks flew to Spain hubbys 60th luckily we have our own place to stay so no eating out. dry mouth still around but manageable , sugar free gum in daytime and xyimelts night time
