Hi everyone ,
Just about to have my 14th RT and I'm struggling to eat now, swallowing is a gripe and a whine.im also getting annoying tiny blood blisters when I eat certain things. Taste is also a no go which doesn't help with trying to eat! What I'm asking is ,I think it's time to up the pain relief or is it still too early? My head's telling me to start using the RIG but my heart says keep trying ,but I'm getting down about it all now so a bit of advice would be good please?! What meds should I be asking for?
My advice is don’t suffer
There isn’t a “time” to do this you do it when you need to
Up your pain meds to cope with background pain especially and use your tube.
I didn’t swallow anything for six weeks. I’m great now and can eat well

Hi MarK
My CNS was quite firm with me on pain meds, told me not to suffer unnecessary pain, guidelines were given on safe dosages... mostly for Oramorph....I certainly took the advice.... Started using my feeding tube as soon a my weight started dropping off.
Difflam and Difflam spray were used bigtime
Take care
Peter
Will ask today for something today
I was on oramorph every four hours with paracetamol in between.
When the background pain got too much and I was waking in the night for too ups I had long acting morphine twice daily. It was a godsend

The other replies you have had are spot on, don't suffer take as many meds as you need. My consultant asked me one day how the pain was, I said it's quite bearable, she said that's not good enough, she didn't want me to have any pain and increased my meds. Start using your RIG as soon as you need to, don't try to force feed yourself.
