Hi all, just had my 3rd RT session and skin very red on face, neck and chest. Spoke to the radiographer and asked her if it will end up blistering and peeling (like sunburn) She said , "yes, but we'll deal with that when the time comes" to which I said, "so it's the case of when it happens, not if it happens", she said, "yes". She didn't leave me any warm, fuzzy feelings, but I suppose it's best to be prepared for the worst. It's just that from my first diagnosis, it all sounded so positive and upbeat, and now it seems it's all gloom and doom for the foreseeable future! Still, I know I should be grateful I should have a future now, it was just the shock. Sorry to moan, but I know you are the people to talk to. Hope you are all having a great day.
Hugs, Hazel x
ask for some Flamigel RT gel.. use it 2-3 times a day.. that might save the day for you.

Hi, Loz,yes, I have some and have been using it, do you think it will stave off the blistering/peeling, I'm clutching at any straws today? Thank you!

Only for a few weeks. You’re bound to be down but as you say be prepared.
Are you using aloe vera gel straight after RT? That might help. It stopped my skin going red till the fourth week.
Dont worry too much. As soon as the RT stops your skin starts getting better and be hugely improved two weeks after.

Thanks Dani. No, I've only been using the Flavigel they gave me? Should I use Aloe Vera too (to subsidise the Flavigel?)
Thank you!

I used aloe vera straight after RT in the car on the way home. You could try that. As well as the Flamigel?

Hi Hazel
We all had low days during our treatment, my radiotherapy team were excellent most of the time but they are only human, dealing with cancer patients must be hard for them at times, they witness a lot of distress.... things do improve slowly but surely, stay positive.
Peter
I used it and although my skin was extremely 'tanned' it stayed intact and didn't even peel.. I also used Aveeno overnight to keep the skin supple..

Thanks Peter, I know I need to stay more positive, but it was just a bit tough today to hear that, I'll pick myself up, I usually do. I've beaten it twice before (malignant melanomas years ago now) and I will do it again! Hugs, Hazel x

Thanks Lori, I'll add that to my arsenal! Nice to hear from someone who 'escaped' the blistering and peeling! Hugs,Hazel x
