Got diagnosed with MEC on roof of mouth. Had wide excision 6 weeks ago. Recovery for first 3 weeks was very rough.
went for results last week and told tumour removed but I only have a 1.5mm clear margin. Tissue was only removed. Beyond the 1.5mm is bone.

As 1.5mm can’t say if cancer gone or not in case some stray cells.

Given 2 choices. Leave it at that and 80% chance of no reoccurrence but may be some stray cells in the bone which may grow. I would then have Mapuche more intrusive surgery in the future and radiotherapy and pos in lump nodes.

Option 2 have further surgery to remove some of bone to see if there are any stray cells and get a slightly better margin if no cancer cells found.
Ups chances of no reoccurrence from 80% to 90/95%.

Decided to go for option 2 and ext surgery booked in in a week time.

Hoping no cancer cells found in bone as scared of what would be next step.
Originally told 1 op to resolve this but now onto number 2. Tumour was not visable on my scans but was there when they operated.

think I have made the right choice of the further op
